About us at Bare Hill Fishing

If you are like me and I suspect you are, I could stand on the deck of my boat and cast hundreds of times in any conditions every day of my life. However, life to this point has not offered my that opportunity. I am an engineer by profession, Mechanical and Aerospace PhD educated. I am in the waning years of a long career serving the nation with the skills I’ve been gifted. My professional life has been spent developing technology and demonstrating those capabilities through complex prototypes for the security of the nation quite often directly delivering those capabilities into the hands of the true 1%, those in uniform who serve our nation in harms way.
Our sport has adopted quite a lot of technology in recent years. Many of these mapping tools, materials in rods and reels. boats, electronic sensors and user interfaces have come from technologies developed for the defense and security of our nation. For me, this is an exciting time, technology that I’ve been a part of for decades has been applied by the experienced and talented giants of our sport to empower us all achieve whatever level of enjoyment and success we desire. To me, this is awesome and I want in!
I started building rods a while back. At first, it was a welcome distraction and comforting relief from the complex and sometimes stressful technical problem solving world that I live in. It’s developed into a passion. Hence Bare Hill Fishing, named after a several hundred acre great pond below my residence that produces as a big a largemouth bass as we will find in the northeast.
I want to build for you what I would build for me. Performance tools of our trade with attention to details both technical and aesthetic. I won’t build a rod that I wouldn’t use myself. We will produce quality rods with performance in mind at a competitive price. We’ll start slow and with your help we will grow a respected brand. It will be done right!
You will notice a military theme here at Bare Hill Fishing. Service is in our family for many generations. Personally, I had the great privilege of serving on the faculty of the Physics and Nuclear Engineering at the United States Military Academy at West Point while leading a special project for our Army. Two of my sons are officers in our Army, you may see subtle clues to their careers around this website. Both served OCONUS during some of these recent trying times. This is a family affair. My eldest son is artistically gifted and I lean on him for a lot of what we see here.
Applying state of the art technology with an eye for aesthetics in service to you and our sport fishing nation. That’s what we and our fishing rods are about. Join us. Fish technical my friends!
